What is an LCD video greeting card?

Imagine giving a card that is more than just a few scribbled words on a piece of cardboard. Today with a mobile phone or a digital camera, it is easy to create a personalised video message. With an LCD video card, you can store that video message and play it back on its inbuilt screen. This makes a special gift and is perfect to give a personal message if you cannot meet in person.

How does it work?

The card works just like a USB flash drive and includes cable that you can connect to a computer. Simply create your video, connect the card to your computer and transfer the file to the card. When you open the card the video will play and continue to loop until you close the card.

Do I need video editing software on my computer?

Not really, you can simply copy the video you created on your phone or camera to a computer and then transfer to the card. However, if you are feeling creative, but if you are new to creating videos, we recommend that you use a free online editor from Canva at https://www.canva.com/videos or Kapwing https://www.kapwing.com/video-editor .

How long can my video be?

The answer to this depends on your size of your video. Different video formats vary wildly in file size. If your video doesn’t fit on the card, you can use a free online video converter to shrink the video size to fit. See “I want to use a video converter” for more information.

What is the capacity of the video card?

The Merry Christmas cards are 100MB and the remaining cards hold at least 180MB. This is plenty for a few minutes of video. If you had a very patient recipient, you could use a video converter, and fit many, many minutes of video on the card!

I bought a card and it already has a video on it. How do i remove it?

Your card may come with a pre-loaded video which explains how the card works. Before you load your video, connect the card to your computer, open the USB drive that will appear in your file manager and delete the video file and any folders. Then check that it is permanently deleted, go to your recycling bin or trash and delete the video again or ’empty the trash’. The card will now be empty and is ready for you to transfer your video.

Can I save more that one video?

Yes, provided there is space, you can transfer more than one video and they will play sequentially.

Can I display pictures rather than a video?

Yes. But a card can only display pictures or videos but not both. You can transfer the pictures to the card in the same way as you do with a video. The pictures will cycle through as a slide show with each one showing for about 8 seconds.

Help! I’ve loaded my video and it gives an error “NO FILE”

This can happen for a number of reasons. Most commonly because there is an unused folder left on the card. Delete the folder (sometimes called video) and load the video so that it is the only thing on the card.

If that didn’t work it is possible that your video format isn’t compatible or is corrupted. Try using a video converter to fix the video then reload it to the card.

I want to use a video converter – what do you recommend?

There are plenty of free online video converters on the internet. We have used https://video-converter.com. It worked well.

To make your video smaller in order to fit a longer video on the card do the following:

  1. Click “Open File” and upload your file from your disk.
  2. On the video tab, leave it set to mp4 but change the resolution to “360p (640×360)”
  3. On the audio tab, leave it set to mp3 but change to Quality to “Economy 64kbps”
  4. Click convert and save the file to your disk.

OK this sounds great, how to I get one?
